Kent and Liz Dauten on Their Support for Josselyn

Kent and Liz Dauten have dedicated much of their time and resources to advancing mental health care and research.

Their philanthropic work is driven by personal experience and a recognition of the critical need for better support, treatment, and scientific advancements in the field.

Through their efforts, they have helped bring new opportunities for innovation and care to those affected by mental health conditions.

About the Dautens
Kent, co-founder of Keystone Capital, continues to work in private equity; although, much of his focus has shifted toward philanthropic and volunteer efforts, particularly in the fields of brain science and mental health. He is involved in education-focused initiatives, including the Big Shoulders Fund and the Museum of Science & Industry. Liz is equally committed to philanthropy, particularly in the area of bipolar disorder research and treatment.

She and Kent have played an instrumental role in founding and supporting several major initiatives, including BD2—Breakthrough Discoveries for Thriving with Bipolar Disorder—a nonprofit dedicated to advancing research in the field. They have also helped establish the Dauten Family Center for Bipolar Treatment Innovation at Massachusetts General Hospital and provided funding for the Bipolar Disorder Learning Health Network, which works to improve treatment standards nationwide.

A Personal Mission in Mental Health Advocacy
After two of the Dautens’ four children were diagnosed with bipolar disorder, they became acutely aware of the challenges faced by individuals and families navigating the mental health system. They also recognized the significant gaps in both research and access to quality care. Seeing firsthand how under-resourced the field is, they were motivated to take action. With limited government funding available for mental health research and treatment, they believe philanthropy must play a greater role in supporting progress.

Supporting Josselyn’s Mission
Josselyn has been a long-time beneficiary of the Dautens’ generosity and advocacy. Their support is rooted in their deep respect for the organization’s leadership and its impact on the community. They have been particularly impressed with the strides Josselyn has made in expanding access to mental health services, especially in response to the growing demand in recent years.

Their connection to Josselyn began through their relationship with Josselyn’s CEO, Susan Resko, whose leadership in community mental health has inspired them for many years. They see Josselyn as a model for accessible, high-quality mental health care, fulfilling its vision of providing Mental health for all.

Building a Lasting Legacy
Kent and Liz Dauten’s commitment to mental health advocacy continues to make a meaningful difference. Through their philanthropic efforts, they are not only advancing research and treatment but also ensuring that individuals and families have access to the support they need. Their work stands as a testament to the power of personal experience in driving change, and their impact will continue to be felt for generations to come.
