Josselyn clinician Sarah Landicho, LPC, NCC proudly represented our expertise in trauma-informed care at the Illinois Counseling Association’s 77th Annual Conference. The conference brought together mental health professionals from across the state to enhance their skills, expand their knowledge, and discover innovative tools to better serve their clients.

Landicho delivered an impactful presentation titled, “Easy Access for EMDR: Closing the Trauma Treatment Gap with Coordinated Community Mental Healthcare.” EMDR is a psychotherapy technique that helps individuals process and heal from traumatic experiences and other distressing symptoms, such as anxiety and depression. Josselyn has 49 clinicians trained in EMDR.

“We are very excited to share with other Illinois professionals how Josselyn and our team of EMDR professionals are working to close the mental health care gap by providing this evidence-based therapy to any client who requests it,” said Landicho.

“Finding an EMDR therapist can be difficult, but finding an EMDR therapist who accepts Medicaid can feel like an impossible chasm to cross. Josselyn continues to expand to bridge the gap.”

EMDR is a cornerstone of Josselyn’s trauma care services, with nearly 50 trained therapists offering this treatment as part of their therapeutic toolkit. By equipping clinicians across various programs, from outpatient therapy to school-based services, Josselyn ensures clients of all ages can benefit from cutting-edge, compassionate care. The ability to present at the ICA Conference is not only a personal honor for Landicho but a milestone moment for Josselyn as a whole.

“We presented a model at the ICA for breaking barriers and closing the trauma treatment gap,” said Josselyn’s Director of Training John Cahill, LCPC. “Whether conference attendees are inspired to start their own community based EMDR programs or just become aware of us as an adjunctive referral source for their clients in need, our goal is to make this treatment available to our whole community.”

The ICA’s Annual Conference is one of the largest gatherings of counseling professionals in the state, offering a platform for leading-edge ideas in mental health treatment. Having one of Josselyn’s own clinicians selected to present speaks volumes about the organization’s stature within the field and its dedication to its clients.

Landicho’s session drew attention to how EMDR can be adapted for greater accessibility, from telehealth delivery to integration in group settings. Her approach bridges clinical excellence with real-world application, exactly the kind of solution-oriented thinking Josselyn fosters in its staff.

From intensive outpatient programming to school partnerships, Josselyn’s is working toward its vision of Mental health for all by delivering comprehensive, accessible, and expert mental health care across the lifespan. This latest recognition at the ICA Conference is yet another indicator of Josselyn’s leadership as a regional center of excellence.
