Share and Receive Support Alongside Peers
Purpose
To create a safe place for participants to process their feelings about their experiences as a first-generation Latino(a) and normalize experiences with other group participants.
- Participant Details – Open to Josselyn clients aged 12-18 who identify as first-generation Latino(a). If a participant is aged 18, they must also be enrolled in high school.
- Date & Time – Meets in person at Josselyn’s Grayslake location (100 N. Atkinson Road Grayslake) on alternating Wednesdays at 5 pm.
- Framework – Group members will:
- Learn assertive communication skills to engage in conversations with their caregivers about cultural norms and traditions
- Explore intergenerational trauma and cultural barriers that may interfere with interpersonal relationships with their caregivers
- Facilitators – Maribel Belen-Figueroa, LCSW, and Maria Martinez, MSW
