Josselyn is proud to announce a significant expansion of its Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy program. With 49 trained clinicians now offering this evidence-based treatment, Josselyn is one of the largest providers of EMDR therapy in the region. This milestone reinforces Josselyn’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in trauma-informed mental health care.

EMDR is a structured, eight-phase therapy that helps individuals process and heal from trauma and other distressing life experiences. Recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization, EMDR is widely used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. The expansion of EMDR services reflects Josselyn’s commitment to delivering the highest quality care to individuals and families in Lake and Cook Counties.

“At Josselyn, we are continually investing in innovative and effective therapies that help people heal,” said Susan Resko, CEO and President of Josselyn. “Expanding our EMDR program allows us to provide even more clients with the specialized care they need to recover from trauma. This is a significant step forward in fulfilling our vision of mental health for all.”

The increase to 49 EMDR-trained clinicians means that more clients can access this life-changing therapy with shorter wait times and broader scheduling flexibility. It also allows for greater internal collaboration among staff, strengthening Josselyn’s clinical community and enhancing the quality of care.

For many clinicians, EMDR offers a transformative tool for helping clients regain control of their lives. Nicole Denman, LCPC, a therapist at Josselyn, shared, “I have seen clients make remarkable progress using EMDR. It gives them the ability to revisit painful memories without being overwhelmed and to finally process what has felt impossible for years.”

Another clinician, Sarah Landicho, LCSW, emphasized the importance of accessibility. “We’re very excited to continue expanding our trauma team at Josselyn. The fact is, there are very few EMDR practitioners besides those of us at Josselyn who accept Medicare insurance in Northeastern Illinois, making it difficult for so many to access this valuable form of therapy. We’re also excited to bring the idea of using EMDR within the community mental health realm to help close the trauma care gap to the Illinois Counseling Association gathering in November. With everything going on in the world today, Josselyn’s expanding trauma team is ready to help people heal”.

Josselyn’s EMDR program is part of its broader strategy to provide comprehensive mental health services across the lifespan. From expressive arts and movement therapy to intensive outpatient programs for adolescents and adults, Josselyn offers a continuum of care that is both personalized and rooted in best practices. As a certified Community Mental Health Center with top-tier accreditations from CARF and the State of Illinois, Josselyn continues to set the standard for mental health care in the region.

“Trauma does not discriminate, and neither should access to care,” added Resko. “Whether someone is recovering from a single traumatic event or a lifetime of complex experiences, EMDR gives them a path toward healing. Our expanded program is not just about numbers — it is about impact.”

For individuals seeking trauma-focused therapy, Josselyn’s growing EMDR team is ready to help. To learn more or schedule an intake, visit www.josselyn.org or call 847-441-5600.
