About Josselyn
Josselyn’s vision of providing Mental health for all reduces cost as a barrier to receive mental health treatment and support. Josselyn works with every client to ensure access to care regardless of income and insurance, including a sliding fee scale based on eligibility. Over 70% of Josselyn’s clients are on Medicaid.

Recognition
Loyola University School of Social Work selected Josselyn and its internship program as agency partner of the year.

Growth
Josselyn has offices in Grayslake, Highland Park, Northbrook, Northfield, and Waukegan. This year we had 40 interns from 15 universities. Since the spring of 2022, Josselyn has hired 30 interns as therapists.
What can a graduate student expect from a Josselyn clinical internship?
- Each intern will be assigned their own individual supervisor, and they will be expected to commit to a weekly supervision meeting.
- Each intern must set aside 2 hours a week for a virtual one-hour administrative group and virtual one-hour clinical group supervision. This is a requirement of the internship. Currently groups are offered on Mondays and Tuesdays in the afternoons.
- The internship program is designed so each intern will build up to ten clients by the time they complete their internship.
- Interns can expect a mixed caseload of children, teens, adults. This is a generalist internship. Therefore, interns should anticipate they will be presented with a variety of presenting concerns, and the supervision to help them thoughtfully respond to the clients they are assigned.
- Interns will be trained to provide a comprehensive bio-psycho-social assessment using the IM+CANS assessment tool. When clients have a positive experience with an intern for an assessment, they will often ask if they can continue to see the intern for therapy. This is the best way for interns to build a caseload.
- The internship is 9 months long. Most interns will need to complete between 600-900 hours depending on the master’s program they are in. Supervisors will make every effort to work with students to meet their practicum, direct hours, and indirect hour requirements.
- Interns are required to commit to 2 evenings a week because this is when clients want to be seen. While we will work to accommodate practicum/internship requirements, most interns will be here about 20 hours per week or 3 days. Josselyn will have Saturday hours available.
- Students will be asked to come into the office for the internship, since this is where the assessments are and where the clients want to be seen. Modified remote options may be available at the discretion of the supervisor after 3 months based on clients’ demands.
- Interns will have access to weekly consultation groups on a variety of topics including working with children and adolescents, multicultural factors in sessions, and understanding how to address individual and family concerns about substance abuse.
- Interns are encouraged to attend monthly virtual CEU programs. EMDR, narrative therapy, ethics, and psychopharmacology are a few of the topics presented through the continuing education program.
- Prior to the start of the internship orientation all interns will complete IM+CANS certification, mandated reporter and OIG training, TB tests and more.
- While all interns will have a criminal background check conducted, they are strongly encouraged to inform the internship team as soon as possible of anything that might come up that could jeopardize their chance of being an intern.
- All interns will be provided with a laptop, using Microsoft Outlook, Word, Teams, OneDrive, and SharePoint.
