Strengthening Family Collaboration in Child and Adolescent Treatment: Evidence-Based Parent Work and Inclusive Care

Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will:

  • Enhance parent engagement strategies to improve caregiver understanding of the treatment process, increase commitment, and address hesitancy, rigid expectations, and culturally influenced perspectives
  • Strengthen clinician skills in managing confidentiality with adolescents, including communicating Illinois’ age-12 confidentiality guidelines and balancing youth privacy with appropriate parental involvement
  • Build competency in parent-focused interventions, including guiding caregivers toward adaptive behaviors and structured parent training
  • Improve clinical support for diverse youth identities and family systems, including working with queer youth navigating selective disclosure and addressing cultural gaps between parent and child experiences

Presenter Bio

Urbi Nag, LCPC, is a licensed clinical therapist specializing in trauma-focused treatment, play therapy, and evidence-based interventions for children, adolescents, and families. She regularly presents at professional conferences and facilitates clinical trainings on topics related to trauma, anxiety, relational health, and child and adolescent development. Her work centers on delivering developmentally attuned, collaborative, and culturally sensitive services that foster resilience and support the well-being of diverse youth and their caregivers. Urbi has worked in schools, residential settings, community mental health centers, and private practice, providing compassionate, client-centered care to individuals across the lifespan.
