Josselyn is proud to announce a significant expansion of its therapy program to treat trauma and other distressing life experiences, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). With 49 certified clinicians now offering this evidence-based treatment, Josselyn is one of the largest providers of EMDR therapy in the region. This milestone reinforces Josselyn’s growing reputation as a center of excellence in trauma-informed mental health care.

Recognized by the American Psychiatric Association and the World Health Organization, EMDR is widely used to treat post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, depression, and other mental health challenges. The expansion of EMDR services reflects Josselyn’s commitment to delivering the highest quality care to individuals and families in Lake and Cook Counties.

“At Josselyn, we are continually investing in innovative and effective therapies that help people heal,” said Josselyn CEO and President Susan Resko. “Expanding our EMDR program allows us to provide even more clients with the specialized care they need to recover from trauma. This is a significant step forward in fulfilling our vision of Mental health for all.”

For many clinicians, EMDR offers a transformative tool for helping clients regain control of their lives. Therapist Bridget Owens, MS, LPC, shared, “EMDR has allowed me as a clinician to support clients in releasing the hold their trauma has had on them. I am both grateful and inspired by the change I observe while engaging in EMDR therapy.”

To further demonstrate EMDR’s impact in practice, see a brief video featuring Josselyn client Hilary, who shares how the therapy helped change her life. Her account provides a firsthand perspective on EMDR’s effectiveness and its role in supporting lasting recovery.

Another clinician, Sarah Landicho, LPC, NCC, emphasized the importance of accessibility. “We’re very excited to continue expanding our trauma team at Josselyn. The fact is, there are very few EMDR practitioners besides those of us at Josselyn who accept Medicaid insurance in Northeastern Illinois, making it difficult for so many to access this valuable form of therapy. We’re also excited to bring the idea of using EMDR within the community mental health realm to help close the trauma care gap to the Illinois Counseling Association gathering in November. With everything going on in the world today, Josselyn’s expanding trauma team is ready to help people heal.

“Trauma does not discriminate, and neither should access to care,” added Resko. “Whether someone is recovering from a single traumatic event or a lifetime of complex experiences, EMDR gives them a path toward healing. Our expanded program is not just about numbers. it is about impact.”

For individuals seeking trauma-focused therapy, Josselyn’s growing EMDR team is ready to help. To get started with EMDR or any of Josselyn’s other services, visit www.josselyn.org or call 847-441-5600.
