Child and Adolescent Practice

This is a broad overview of child and adolescent practice, offering considerations on unique aspects of these populations, assessment, the importance of play, challenging cases, and working with parents.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

  • Identify unique aspects of child/adolescent practice
  • Reflect on and consider multiple levels of assessment for children/adolescents
  • Articulate the importance and considerations for making use of play as an essential component of child/adolescent practice
  • Identify considerations and responses for common challenges and impasses in child/adolescent practice
  • Identify the importance of working with parents in child/adolescent practice and develop responses to common challenges in this aspect of the work
Kevin McMahon, LCSW

Presenter Bio
Kevin McMahon, LCSW, is core faculty at the Institute for Clinical Social Work (ICSW). He is also a graduate of the child and adolescent psychoanalytic psychotherapy (CAPP) program at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute.

Kevin’s work history includes over 15 years of independent practice, the child and adult clinics at the Chicago Psychoanalytic Institute, Integrated Assessment program with the Erikson Institute, and the Jewish Children’s Bureau (JCB) Northbrook community office.
