New Medical Leadership at The Josselyn Center!
We are pleased to announce that Louis J. Kraus, MD has joined The Josselyn Center as the new Medical Director. Dr. Kraus joins two other child psychiatrists who make up the Josselyn Champions; doctors who are donating their time to serve our low income clients. Dr. Kraus is graciously donating eight hours a month to Josselyn's clients.
We are deeply grateful to these Josselyn Champions who expand our capacity to serve those in our community who need psychiatric care and cannot afford the relatively high cost of private services. The nation-wide shortage of psychiatrists makes access to psychiatric care very challenging; for Medicaid recipients, finding a Medicaid provider can take months and up to a year depending on location due to low reimbursement rates.
Many health systems consider the shortage of psychiatrists to be more concerning than any other subspecialty. While there has been increased interest in psychiatry among medical school graduates in recent years, training is limited due to few residency programs. That is why we are so grateful to our Josselyn Champions who provide pro bono psychiatric services!
Dr. Louis Kraus is the Women's Board Chair and Section Chief of Child Psychiatry and Director of Forensic Psychiatry at Rush University Medical Center. He is the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry Delegate to the American Medical Association, past Assembly Chair of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry, prior Chairman of the Juvenile Health Care for the Nation Commission on Correctional Health Care, a witness and advocate for the Juvenile Justice system, a published researcher in many peer-reviewed journals and has a private practice in Northbrook.
Dr. Feld is one of the nation's leading experts on ADHD. He speaks at conferences around the world, yet every month, volunteers to treat children at Josselyn. He states, "When it comes to public aid for mental health, it really is like two different medical systems, one of those with money and another for those without. I am happy to help Josselyn treat more kids."
In addition to her busy practice, Dr. Jaselskis consults with school districts and is a respected advocate on behalf of children, mental health, and workforce issues in Springfield and Washington, DC. "Josselyn provides excellent care in a collaborative setting. I always leave feeling reinvigorated."
